Kids Programs

L.E.A.D. Afterschool Program (K-5th Grade) focuses on the four key elements needed for youth to be successful in education and their lives. Our afterschool program provides a warm, caring environment beyond school hours where your children have the opportunity to have an afterschool snack, complete homework, play with friends, and learn from community organizations.

Don’t miss out on visiting Prairie Farm this summer! Prairie Farm is open seasonally from Memorial Day through early August. The 2019 season runs through Saturday, August 10, 2019. 

Sholem Aquatic Center will begin end of summer reduced hours soon. The facility is open 4-7pm on weekdays when Unit 4 resumes (August 15) until Labor Day. Once Unit 4 is back in session, it is possible that not all attractions will be open. Please call ahead if you are planning to use a certain attraction.

Special Events

Sholem Aquatic Center’s last movie night is August 9! Lay out on the beach, rest in a deck chair, or swim in our lap pool, and enjoy a screening of Lilo & Stitch. Concessions will be open and serving your favorite movie foods. Subscribe to the mailing list to keep updated on the latest news. 


CU Days is coming to Douglass Park on August 9 & 10! CU Days features music, community vendors, athletic events, and children’s activities and is sponsored by WBCP 1580AM, Illinicare Health, and Ft. Sooy Foundation.


Tired of eating the same meals each week? Try something new! Get a TASTE of CU on August 16 & 17 at Champaign Park District’s signature event – the Taste of Champaign-Urbana! Visit West Side Park for food, music, craft beer, and more.


The tastiest run in CU is coming up! Check out Pie Run on August 17 for a 3.14 mile course that starts and ends at the Taste of Champaign-Urbana in West Side Park.


Meet our Dance Arts Conservatory instructors and learn about our brand new curriculum at our Dance Arts open house on Monday, August 19 from 6-8pm at Springer Cultural Center.

Join us as we head to Myers Dinner Theatre in Hillsboro, IN to see Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat on August 21! 


Hit the road for some adventure, culture, and fun! We’re headed to American Harvest Eatery & Frank Lloyd Wright House in Springfield, IL.  We will enjoy a meal together and visit a house built by famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright. 


We will be teaming up with several different charities throughout the Champaign-Urbana area to provide comforting gifts to people in need. Meet at Hays Recreation Center every Monday from 1-3pm.

Have you driven past Heritage Park lately? You may notice the lake is under construction! We are in the middle of a grading and leveling project that will make the lake more stable and enjoyable for all. There will also be a path installed around the lake! We estimate the project to be complete by spring of 2020.


Martens Center is getting closer and closer to it’s  fundraising goal and we’ve updated the project timeline. Read all about this exciting and transformative project here.
