Thank you so much for volunteering at the Taste of Champaign-Urbana! This year’s event is going to feature some of the area’s best food, drink, arts and crafts, and local music – along with some rockin’ bands from out of town too.
The following is a brief guide to volunteering in the Beer Tent at Taste. If you have additional questions beyond what is on this document, please contact Zoe.Stinson@champaignparks.com.

We are so appreciative of all of our volunteers. We could not make this event possible without you. Sign up at bit.ly/2017TasteofCUVolunteers.
In order to volunteer in the Beer Tent to pour beer, you must be TIPS trained and 19+ years old.
- This training is being offered by the Champaign Park District free of charge for all volunteers committed to working at least 1 full Beer Tent shift. (Anyone who volunteers will be reimbursed to cover the cost of the course.)
- TIPS training classes will be held:
Thursday, June 15 at 5:30-9:30pm
Saturday, July 8 at 10am-2pm
Thursday, August 10 at 5:30-9:30pm
Additional dates can be added by request for large groups.
- Once training is completed, TIPS certification lasts 3 years and can be used at restaurants and bars that serve alcohol.
Arrival Time and Check-in
All volunteers will check in at Taste Central, located near the corner of Church St & State St across from the bike racks. Please arrive at least 10 minutes early for your shift(s), pick up your volunteer shirt, and make your way to the Beer Tent.
At the Beer Tent you will check-in with the Beer Tent Supervisor and receive an ID number.
Transportation and Parking
Both State St and Elm St will be closed in the vicinity of West Side Park for the event. We recommend considering CUMTD or carpooling as parking will be limited. Neighborhoods surrounding West Side Park are available, but watch for “No Parking” signs.
Note: ADA parking is available at the Emmanuel Memorial Episcopal Church parking lot. The entrance is on Park Avenue, next to the Virginia Theatre.
Please dress comfortably and appropriately for the weather and wear closed-toed shoes. You will receive a Volunteer Shirt upon arrival to wear during your shift(s)!
The first aid station for participants and volunteers will be located next to Taste Central. However, if you have or witness an emergency, dial 911 right away.
Lost & Found
Lost and found will be located at the Ticket Tent.
Deluxe portable bathrooms will be available throughout West Side Park.
What’s In It for Me?
Along with being a VITAL component of making this annual event possible, we want to make sure you enjoy Taste! Stick around after your shift for great food, great music, and cold beer at the Taste of Champaign-Urbana! All volunteers will receive a free sheet of Taste tickets per hour worked when you sign out.
Your name will also go in the raffle for each shift worked for the chance to win fabulous prizes!
For the third year, CPD will be hosting the Pie Run featuring pies from local business and people running 3.14 miles (get it? Pi – 3.14). We still need volunteers to help with the race too! Those interested can sign up here: bit.ly/PieRunVolunteers. If you sign up to volunteer for the race, you will receive a separate email with race-specific volunteer information.
