COVID-19 Safety Precautions

We want to keep you safe at Champaign Park District programs, parks, trails, and facilities. Please review our COVID-19 Safety Precautions for programs you or loved ones could be attending:

CPD Outdoor Basketball, Volleyball, and GAGA Court Rules

  • Stay home if you are sick
  • Practice social distancing
  • Wash or sanitize your hands before and after use
  • Encouraged to wear a face covering when within 6ft of others
  • Outdoor sport surfaces are not sanitized and users play at their own risk

CPD Outdoor Playground Rules

  • Stay home if you are sick

  • Wash or sanitize your hands before and after use
  • Encouraged to wear a face covering when within 6ft of others
  • No more than 50 users at a time

Splash Pads

  • Stay home if you are sick.
  • Practice social distancing.

  • Encouraged to wear a face covering when within 6 feet of others.
  • Splash pad surfaces are not sanitized and users play at their own risk.
  • Patrons are to adhere by the Champaign Public Health Department’s guidelines when it comes to outdoor playground capacity limits.

Sports & Field Rentals

Adult Softball

  • Virtual Captains Meeting on August 5th @ 6:00 PM to discuss safety precautions, rule changes, schedules etc.
  • Check-in stations for all spectators & teams at entrance of 4-plex
    • Teams must complete & turn in roster to Site Supervisor prior to the start of every game
    •  Spectators must sign in & complete a self- assessment of COVID-19 symptoms
  • Hand Sanitizing station available at entrance & bathrooms
  • Bathrooms closed for cleaning every 2 hours
  • Dugouts will be cleaned before the start of every game
  • Staggered start times on fields to minimize contact between teams
    • Fields 7 & 5 will have start times of (6:00, 7:00, 8:00, 9:00)
    • Fields 4 & 6 will have start times of (6:30, 7:30, 8:30)
  • Teams will not be allowed to warm up inside the complex
    • Instead teams are encouraged to warm up in the grassy areas outside
  • No drinking fountains or concessions will be available during games
  • Players must wear a mask if on the sidelines or unable to maintain 6ft distancing (Do not have to wear when actively playing)
  • Safety bases will be provided at home plate to limit contact between teams
  • Balls will be exchanged & sanitized in-between every game
  • No /bleacher seating for teams on sidelines – participants & spectators are encouraged to bring their own seating for games
  • Spectators must sit within designated fan seating section and wear a face mask if unable to properly social distance
    •  If policy is not followed Site Supervisors will ask you to put on a face mask or leave the facility
  • Spectators/ Participants are discouraged from congregating before/after events

Adult Outdoor Volleyball

  • Site Supervisor on site for every game to ensure safety precautions are followed & to monitor game play
  •  Check-in stations for all spectators & teams with Site Supervisor (Table will be set up by the courts)
    • Teams must complete & turn in roster to Site Supervisor prior to the start of every game
    • Spectators must sign in & complete a self- assessment of COVID-19 symptoms
  • Hand Sanitizing station available at check- in
  • No drinking fountains will be available during games
  • Players must wear a mask if on the sidelines or unable to maintain 6ft distancing (Do not have to wear when actively playing)
  • Balls will be exchanged & sanitized in-between every game
  • No bench/bleacher seating for teams on sidelines – participants & spectators are encouraged to bring their own seating for games
  • Spectators must sit at least 30ft from the court and wear a face mask if unable to properly social distance from other spectators
    • If policy is not followed Site Supervisors will ask you to put on a face mask or leave the facility
  • Spectators/ Participants are discouraged from congregating before/after events

Ball Field Rentals - Games

  • Site Supervisor on site for every game to ensure safety precautions are being followed & common touch points are being cleaned
  • Coaches must turn in team rosters with contact information to Site Supervisor’s prior to the start of games
  • Teams should be vigilant in preventing the spread of the virus by practicing good hygiene, as recommended by the IDPH and CDC
  • Coaches should ensure no one participates if they are experiencing any symptoms or exposure risks, per IDPH and CDC
  • Face coverings should be worn at all times when 6’ of social distancing cannot be maintained-unless on the field during a game
  • Group sizes should be limited to 50 participants or fewer, and 30-ft of distancing must be maintained between groups
  • Coaches and participants are encouraged to follow all CDC recommended guidelines and wash hands before arrival and to bring and use their own hand sanitizer
  • Minimize sharing of high-touch equipment between non-household individuals when possible
  • Sanitize shared equipment with commercially premixed disinfectants prior to practice/games and during use (e.g., between drills/innings) and encourage frequent hand sanitizing
  • Place personal items 6’ from other player’s items to avoid any contact
  • We encourage staggered activity start and end times to minimize contact between teams or groups
  • No team/group meetings and no “high fives”, fist bumps, or handshakes
  • Suspend any form of group snacks (no seeds, no gum chewing, no spitting)
  • No drinking fountains available (encourage water to be supplied by individual participant)
  • Encourage participants to take trash out of the park with them
  • Please discourage participants and families from congregating before, during, and after practice
  • Review COVID-19 Symptoms (listed below) and complete a wellness screening with all participants attending practice or games (see example below)
  • Spectators are discouraged at this time
  •  If spectators are present for games, they MUST sign the Spectator Log which can be found with the Site Supervisor at the facility
  • Spectators are encouraged to wear masks at all time, but required to wear masks when 6ft social distancing cannot be maintained
  • Bleacher seating will be unavailable, spectators are encouraged to provide their own seating
  • Spectators are encouraged to sit in the marked “Home” & “Away” seating area of each field
  •  No more than 50 people in the designated “Home” & “Away” sections
  • Site Supervisors have the right to ask spectators to move to another area or leave the premises when maximum numbers have been exceeded or Safety policies are not being practiced

Micro-Soccer/Youth Soccer Clinic/Hitting & Defensive Softball Clinic


  • Spectator & participant check- in station (ALL must sign in)
  • Health Screening questions asked by instructor prior to check-in at practice or games
  • Hand sanitizing station for every team: all players must sanitize hands prior to practice
  • No drinking fountains or water jugs available; participants are encouraged to bring own water
  • Coaches will always wear masks if unable to maintain 6 ft social distancing
  • Emphasis placed on social distancing drills

  • Players must wear a mask if on the sidelines or unable to maintain 6ft distancing
    • Exception: during drills or games when actively moving; if participant prefers to wear a mask they are welcome to at any time
  • Group sizes are limited to 50 participants or fewer, groups of 50 will be spaced at least 30 ft apart
  • Minimize sharing of high touch equipment; if equipment is shared coaches/staff will sanitize at the end of use
  • No team/group meetings, no fist bumps, high fives, or handshakes
  • No bench/bleacher seating for teams on sidelines – participants & spectators are encouraged to bring their own seating for games

Youth Soccer

  • Health Screening questions asked by coach prior to check- in at practice or games
  • Hand sanitizing station for every team: all players must sanitize hands prior to practice
  • No drinking fountains or water jugs available; participants are encouraged to bring own water
  • Coaches will always wear masks if unable to maintain 6 ft social distancing
  • Officials will wear masks when they are not actively officiating a game
  • Players must wear a mask if on the sidelines or unable to maintain 6ft distancing
    • Exception: during drills or games when actively moving; if participant prefers to wear a mask they are welcome to at any time
  • No Throw ins during games to minimize common touch equipment
  • Group sizes are limited to 50 participants or fewer, groups of 50 will be spaced at least 30 ft apart
  • Staggered start times for games to minimize contact between teams
  • Minimize sharing of high touch equipment; if equipment is shared coaches/staff must sanitize at the end of use
  • No team/group meetings, no fist bumps, high fives, or handshakes
  • No shared team snacks
  • No bench/bleacher seating for teams on sidelines – participants & spectators are encouraged to bring their own seating for games
  • Bathroom cleanings every 2 hours during game days
  • Spectators must sign in on Spectator Log with Site Supervisor on duty during games
  • Spectators must sit within designated fan seating section and wear a face mask if unable to properly social distance
    • If policy is not followed Site Supervisors will ask you to put on a face mask or leave the facility
  • Spectators/ Participants are discouraged from congregating before/after events
