Anime & Manga: How to Draw Characters

Ages 11+
Study the dynamic and imaginative art of Japan’s greatest and current Anime (cartoons) & Manga (comic) artists. Learn the techniques and materials used by professional artists in Japan and American, as we explore and discuss examples. Discover ways to draw people and characters expressively and accurately. Learn drawing techniques and character building to bring your characters to life. This class may be repeated to continue developing skills. A supply list of around $30 is listed below.

NEW! Create My Own Manga

Ages 13+
Write, create, and illustrate your very own manga story! We’ll study popular and timeless manga and develop our own story and characters. Learn how to write, pace, and storyboard your stories, and create dynamic and descriptive pages and covers. A supply list of around $30 is listed below.

NEW! Beginning Portrait

Ages 18+ | Level: Beginner/Intermediate

Learn how to capture a likeness and mix skin tones. Students will start with simple shapes of color and value and progress to portraits incorporating a more thorough investigation and varied palette. Emphasis will be placed on understanding facial structure, universal proportions, and the uniqueness of individual features. Self-portraits and working from mannequins/photos will be included. A supply list of approximately $100 is listed below. There is a $35 non-refundable fee for this program.

Non-Representational & Abstract Construction as Painting & Sculpture

Ages 18+
This class will explore nontraditional processes for art making. Students will use paint, found objects, collage, assemblage, and other materials to create a series of works. Class content will be tailored to individual student’s interests. Supply list could include old books, reclaimed barn wood, sheet metal, or more traditional supports such as canvas or wood panels and various paint mediums. Some artist examples include Robert Rauschenberg, Edward and Nancy Kienholz, and Jasper Johns.

Beginning Watercolor Painting

Ages 18+
Create wonderful works of art outdoors or indoors with this exciting medium! Local illustrator Kelli Roos will guide you through all the materials and techniques. Learn how to create your compositions as we explore landscape and still life subjects. Learn about your materials and how you can use them to achieve your artistic pursuits. We will explore and practice effective ways to control the watercolor paint to look how you desire it to look. A supply list of approximately $65 is listed below.

Intermediate Watercolor Painting

Ages 18+
Expand your watercolor knowledge! Develop your technique about various masking/layering processes and develop more advanced brush work. Learn art principles to utilize color, value, and shapes for solid compositions. Study how to paint from still life to add expressive feel to your work. All activities have one-on-one instruction from local illustrator Kelli Roos. A supply list of approximately $60 is listed below. There is a $25 non-refundable fee for this program.

The Themes of Summer

Ages 6-11
Using themes associated with summer (swimming, lightning bugs, and picnics) students will become familiar with the fundamentals of drawing and painting. They will learn how to use geometric shapes to construct images, experiment with mixing paint, and more. Projects may include still life, landscape, and portraiture. Paint supplied.
