ADVENTURES IN MODERN ART! 

Ages 8-11 | Level: Beginner
What is modern art? Who is Picasso? Kandinsky? Jackson Pollock? Join us for fun adventures in painting and mixed media focused on modern art. Create projects inspired by an array of various artists from this era using different painting techniques and methods. Bring your imagination and discover the wonders of modern art! COMICS FOR KIDS

Ages 7-11 | Level: Beginner
Explore the world of comics! Comic strips, comic books, and even manga will be our creative inspiration. Students will create characters and build stories and worlds. Learn new drawing and discovery techniques to bring our stories to life and share with others. A supply list of around $15 is required.

COURAGEOUS COLLAGING 

Ages 7-11 | Level: Beginner
Courageous collaging! In this class we will collect and use materials of different textures, colors and patterns to construct various collage art projects. Come explore the world through the sense of touch and learn to use different materials to manipulate shapes and arrangements of various textures, forms and color. Expect to get messy with: glue, buttons, tissue paper, twigs, feathers, felt, stickers, contact paper, corrugated cardboard, etc. A supply list of approximately $20 will print at the time of registration.

ANIME & MANGA: HOW TO DRAW CHARACTERS

Ages 11+ | Level: Beginner/Intermediate
Study the dynamic and imaginative art of Japan’s greatest and current anime (cartoon) and manga (comic) artists. Learn the techniques and materials used by professional artists in Japan and America as we explore and discuss examples. Discover ways to draw people and characters expressively and accurately. Learn drawing techniques and character-building to bring your characters to life. This class may be repeated to continue developing skills. A supply list of approximately $35 will print at the time of registration.

OP, POP, & MORE

Ages 6-11 | Level: Beginner
Students will create colorful works of art each week as they learn about various artists from the 20th century. Taking cues from various painting styles such as Op Art and Pop Art, students will make still life and portrait paintings, create optical Illusion art, and more. Colored pencil, markers, and tempera paint will be used. A supply list of approximately $40 will print at the time of registration.

DRAWING FOR KIDS

Kids will explore the exciting skill of drawing through age appropriate discoveries and lessons. Use of drawing, shapes, and other innovative activities will grow your child’s ability to see the world around them and great spatial awareness with confidence. THEMES OF FALL

Ages 6-11 | Level: Beginner
Using themes associated with fall (pumpkins, glowing moons, and warm sweaters to name a few) students will learn the fundamentals of drawing and painting. They will learn how to use geometric shapes to construct images, experiment with mixing paint and more. Projects may include still life, landscape, or portraiture. A Supply list of approximately $30 will print at registration.

Ages 13+ | Level: Intermediate
Colors and pop culture come together in Color Techniques! Learn and use basic color theory and techniques professional artists use to create their lush and colorful illustrations. We will explore how artists use lighting and how to apply them to create emotional effects. We will also engage in exercises to discover your own personal color style and how to express it! A supply list of approximately $50 will print at the time of registration.

Be creative on your own terms! Sketchbooks are a small, yet amazing creative tool for you to express yourself anytime, anywhere. Learn techniques on how to see and draw the world around you quickly and expressively. We’ll learn ways to expand your creativity so you can create the world inside your head beautifully in the pages of your sketchbook. A supply list of approximately $15 will print at the time of registration.

PAINTING THE STILL LIFE

Ages 18+ | Level: Beginner/Intermediate

Still life painting is an exceptional way to explore the fundamentals of paint and painting. The focus of this workshop is direct observation from still life. Students can expect to work on approximately 2 still life paintings over the course of the class. Tonal and chromatic development, composition, and the handling of paint will all be addressed. Paula McCarty, who holds a MFA, will conduct the workshop. A supply list of approximately $150 (dependent upon student’s existing supplies), will print at the time of registration. There is a $35 non-refundable fee for this program.

PORTRAIT PAINTING SIMPLIFIED

Ages 18+ | Level: Beginner/Intermediate

This class will investigate portraiture through a reductive lens and from using a photo reference. Various planes of the head and universal proportions will be discussed as well as what to look for in reference photos. Students will learn to analyze shape and value to create an abstracted portrait. Paula McCarty, who holds a MFA, will conduct the workshop. Suitable for either acrylic or oil painters. A supply list of approximately $150 (dependent upon student’s existing supplies), will print at the time of registration. There is a $35 non-refundable fee for this program.

WATERCOLOR FOR THE HOLIDAYS

Ages 18+ | Level: Beginner

Learn how to use watercolor while creating colorful and fun seasonal themed works! Follow basic step-by-step lessons to create cards, ornaments, paintings, and other crafty winter fun! All activities have one-on-one instruction from local illustrator Kelli Roos. A supply list of approximately $60 will print at the time of registration.
