Art Smart Kids

Ages 3-5 not in Kindergarten
Develop your child’s creativity, imagination, and self-expression through activities in music, creative drama, story telling, crafts, two and three dimensional art projects and field trips. Mid-session registration is accepted based on availability. Registration for the 2019-2020 school year began March 18.

Art Beast

Ages 5-11
Put your creativity to work using recycled resources, glue, paint, and more! We supply
the materials, you supply the creativity. New fun ideas will be posted in each 2-hour studio time slot. Let your inner art beast loose with us!

Comics for Kids

Ages 6-11
Explore the world of comics! Comic strips, comic books, and even manga will be our creative inspiration. Students will create characters and build stories and worlds. Learn new drawing and discovery techniques to bring our stories to life and share with others. A supply list of around $15 is required.

Secrets of Cartooning! – NEW!

Ages 6-11
There are no magic pencils, but you can learn valuable, time-tested techniques from a professional cartoonist. Develop your personal sense of humor and create your own characters. Whether your interest lies in animated cartoons or comic books/strips, there’ll be plenty of info to help you become a better cartoonist! A supply list of about $20 will print at the time of registration. There is a $25 non-refundable fee for this program.

Op, Pop, & More

Ages 6-11
Students will learn about 20th century painting styles, such as sensational surrealism, make-your-eyes-go-funny op art, bold and bright pop art, expressionism and much more. Taking inspiration from modern era artists, students will make their own colorful creations using colored pencil, markers, and paint. A supply list of approximately $20 will print at the time of registration. There is a $25 non-refundable fee for this program.

Fundamentals of Drawing

Ages 16+
Strengthen your drawing and painting abilities! Local illustrator Kelli Roos teaches you proven techniques to draw still life’s with confidence. Various exercises will help you see to create highlights and shadows and capture a 3D feel. Additional exercises will develop your ability to create your own compositions. A supply list of approximately $35 will print at the time of registration. There is a $25 non-refundable fee for this program.

Anime & Manga: How to Draw Characters

Ages 11+
Study the dynamic and imaginative art of Japan’s greatest and current Anime (cartoons) & Manga (comic) artists. Learn the techniques and materials used by professional artists in Japan and American, as we explore and discuss examples. Discover ways to draw people and characters expressively and accurately. Learn drawing techniques and character building to bring your characters to life. This class may be repeated to continue developing skills. A supply list of around $30 is required.

Watercolor Painting-Flowers Still Life

Ages 18+
Beginning watercolor required. Develop your technique further using flowers and still life. Learn principles to further your painting and how to successfully execute wet on wet techniques and other brush work to achieve what you want in your work. We will study your photos and live still life in class. All activities have one-on-one instruction from local illustrator Kelli Roos. A supply list of approximately $95 will print at the time of registration. There is a $35 non refundable fee for this program.

Beginning Watercolor Painting

Ages 18+
Create wonderful works of art with this exciting medium through different materials and techniques. Learn how to create your compositions as we explore landscapes and still life subjects. Discover how to use materials to achieve your artistic pursuits. We will explore and practice effective ways to control the watercolor paint to bring your vision to life! A supply list of approximately $65 is required.

The Portrait Simplified

Ages 18+ | Level: Beginner/Intermediate
Capturing character is essential to successful portraiture, but how much information do we really need to paint a convincing likeness? Students will experiment with shapes and color while experimenting with a minimal approach. Emphasis will be placed on understanding facial structure and how light hits the form. Skin tone and universal proportions will be discussed. Students will paint self-portraits and also work from photographs. Paula McCarty, who holds a MFA, will conduct the workshop. Oil and acrylic painters welcome. New students can expect a materials list of approximately $100 while existing painters may need to augment their current supplies. The supply list will print at the time of registration. There is a $35 non-refundable fee for this

Painting Clouds and Water – NEW!

Ages 18+ | Level: Beginner/Intermediate
This painting class will be all about investigating methods as you learn to paint fluffy clouds and reflections in rippling water. The character of clouds, the variety of color in sky and water, and tips for painting both of these appealing subjects will be addressed. Expect to complete 2 paintings. Open Art Studio – NEW!

Ages 18+ 
All drawing and painting mediums welcome. Enjoy a relaxed atmosphere and work at your own pace on your own pieces. Local illustrator Kelli Roos will provide feedback and help with any questions to achieve your creative vision in
your work. Bring your own art supplies. We will have tables, chairs, and a few easels available. There is a $25 non-refundable fee for this program.
