Art Smart Kids

Ages 3-5 not in Kindergarten
Develop your child’s creativity, imagination, and self-expression through activities in music, creative drama, story telling, crafts, two and three dimensional art projects and field trips. Mid-session registration is accepted based on availability. Registration for the 2019-2020 school year began March 18.

Art Beast

Ages 5-11
Put your creativity to work using recycled resources, glue, paint, and more! We supply
the materials, you supply the creativity. New fun ideas will be posted in each 2-hour studio time slot. Let your inner art beast loose with us!

Comics for Kids

Ages 6-11
Explore the world of comics! Comic strips, comic books, and even manga will be our creative inspiration. Students will create characters and build stories and worlds. Learn new drawing and discovery techniques to bring our stories to life and share with others. A supply list of around $15 is required.

Drawing for Kids

Ages 6-11
Kids will explore the exiting skill of drawing through age appropriate discoveries and lessons. Use of drawing, shapes, and other innovative activities will grow your child’s ability to see the world around them and great spatial awareness with confidence with drawing. Op, Pop, & More – NEW!

Ages 6-11
Students will learn about 20th century painting styles, such as sensational surrealism, make-your-eyes-go-funny op art, bold and bright pop art, expressionism and much more. Taking inspiration from modern era artists, students will make their own colorful creations using colored pencil, markers, and paint. A supply list of approximately $20 will print at the time of registration. There is a $25 non-refundable fee for this program.

Anime & Manga: How to Draw Characters

Ages 11+
Study the dynamic and imaginative art of Japan’s greatest and current Anime (cartoons) & Manga (comic) artists. Learn the techniques and materials used by professional artists in Japan and American, as we explore and discuss examples. Discover ways to draw people and characters expressively and accurately. Learn drawing techniques and character building to bring your characters to life. This class may be repeated to continue developing skills. A supply list of around $30 is required.

Anime & Manga: Dynamic Characters – NEW!

Ages 13+
Grow your drawing skills and take your love of anime and manga to the next level. Students will learn the secrets of drawing accurate clothing and using light and shadow to increase the emotional appeal of your artwork. This class will develop your creativity skills to make dramatic single character and group illustrations. Learn how artists develop and apply their individual style to their work. Anime & Manga: Color Techniques

Ages 13+
Colors and pop culture come together in Color Techniques! Learn and use basic color theory and techniques professional artists use to create their lush and colorful illustrations. We will explore how artists use lighting and how to apply them to create emotional effects. We will also engage in exercises to discover your own personal color style and how to express it! A supply list of approximately $50 will print at the time of registration.

Sketch Your World

Ages 14+
Be creative on your own terms! Sketchbooks are a small, yet amazing creative  tool for you to express yourself anytime, anywhere. Learn techniques on how to see and draw the world around you quickly and expressively. We’ll learn ways to expand your creativity so you can create the world inside your head beautifully in the pages of your sketchbook. A supply list of approximately $6–$15 is required.

Cartooning Diary – NEW!

Ages 18+
Be the star of your own comic strip or chronicle the daily escapades of your family, friends, co-workers, or pets. You’ll learn to draw from your life experiences and create comic panels, comic strips, single page, or multi-page stories. Themes can be humorous or dramatic slices of life. Learn to pace a story or gag for best effect and create cartoon identities/likenesses of your main characters. A supply list of approximately $20 will print at the time of registration. There is a $25 non-refundable fee for this program.

Cartooning for Adults – NEW!

Ages 18+
Get in touch with your humorous side with this 6-week class. Learn to think like a cartoonist by observing your world and creating your own brand of single panel cartoons, comic strips, and one page stories. Exercises will be fun for all skill levels. Cartooning techniques will be discussed and your own personal style will be developed.  A supply list of approximately $25 will print at the time of registration.

Watercolor Painting-Landscapes – NEW!

Ages 18+
Explore your creative side using brushstrokes and color to create trees, mountains, rocks, and other natural items. Develop your favorite views and sights from around the world. We will also work with composition and color to show different lighting effects to capture different times of day. All activities have a one-on-one instruction. A supply list of around $95 will print at the time of registration.

Beginning Watercolor Painting

Ages 18+
Create wonderful works of art with this exciting medium through different materials and techniques. Learn how to create your compositions as we explore landscapes and still life subjects. Discover how to use materials to achieve your artistic pursuits. We will explore and practice effective ways to control the watercolor paint to bring your vision to life! A supply list of approximately $65 is required.

Experimental Drawing – NEW!

Ages 18+
Still life painting is an exceptional way to explore the fundamentals of paint and painting. The focus of this workshop is direct observation of simple still life. Students will learn about tonal and chromatic development, composition, and the handling of paint as they paint from summer inspired still life. Paula McCarty, who holds a MFA, will conduct the workshop. A supply list of approximately $30 will print at the time of registration.

Painting the Illusion of Metal and Glass – NEW!

Ages 18+
Painting the likeness of metal and glass objects may be intimidating, but once you learn how to make the magical illusion happen, you will be on your way to creating paintings that sparkle and shine. Students can expect to complete two paintings. Acrylic and oil painters welcome. A supply list of approximately $100+ for new students will print at the time of registration. Existing painters may need to
augment their current supplies. There is a $35 non-refundable fee for this program.
