Fall Special Events (September – January)

The Champaign Park District offers a wide array of special events throughout the year. Events are listed by season under the “Special Events” tab. New events may be added at any time, so be sure you keep an eye on our most recent Program Guide for updates. Extreme Steam 2019 | Wednesday, September 4 @ 4:00 -5:00 pm

Douglass Branch Library
Ages K- 12th graders
Join us for a special afternoon of STEAM activities (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) at our weekly do-it-yourself program for school-age kids. No need to register, this is a drop-in event. Presented in partnership with the Douglass Branch Library.

Halloween Costume Drive & Giveaway Drive 2019 | September 16- October 18

Any Champaign Park District facility
Pickup/Exchange: October 19, 10am – noon, Douglass Community Center
Less than bewitched by last years’ Halloween outfits? Creating closet room for a new costume? Donate your old threads and give kids a night of happy haunting! Get more info here.

Douglass Senior Style Show 2019 | Sunday, September 29 at 4:00 pm

Douglass Community Center
All Ages – $10, If you missed last year’s sold-out event, get your tickets early this year! Come out to see the seniors of Douglass Annex strut their stuff down the runway – a guaranteed good time! Please come ‘Dressed to Impress’ to fit this stylish occasion. Tickets are required for entry and can be purchased at Douglass Annex or Douglass Community Center.

Flannel Fest 2019 | Friday, October 11 at 5:00 – 9:00 pm
Lumberjack Dash 2019 | Friday, October 11 at 6:30 pm

Get your flannel ready and join us for an evening of fun fall festivities! Watch the Timberwork’s Lumberjack Show perform demonstrations throughout the evening including log rolling, axe throwing, and speed carving. Halloween FunFest 2019 | Thursday, October 24 at 5:00 – 8:00 pm

Market Place Mall
Ages 11 & under (must be accompanied by an adult) – FREE!
Now in its 34th year, Champaign and Urbana Park Districts, along with Market Place Mall, invite you and your family to join us for this FREE family event! Dress up in your favorite costume and join us for trick-or-treating, games, and a costume contest. Take a walk through our spook-tacularly (family-friendly) Haunted House, and don’t forget to bring a bag to collect all your goodies. Event images will post to our Facebook page for you to download, share, and enjoy!

CUSR Cupcake 5K & 100m Dash | Sunday, November 3 at 9:00am

Parkland Campus
What’s better than a cupcake with friends? Or a fundraiser that supports kids and adults with disabilities who just want to have fun? Why not have both! The CUSR Cupcake 5K is going to be one sweet time! This is a timed, accessible race ending with a delicious cupcake. Funds raised will go into the Champaign-Urbana Special Recreation’s scholarship fund, which supports individuals who need financial support to access CUSR programs and services. Holiday in Whoville 2019 | Sunday, December 1 at 1:00 – 5:00 pm (Doors open at Noon)

Virginia Theatre
All Ages – $4, children under 2 are free
Join us at the Virginia Theatre for a real holiday treat! Watch Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas (1966 TV short) with screenings at 1pm, 2pm, 3pm, and 4pm. During the event, we will have pictures with Santa, caroling, hot chocolate, and trolley rides through Downtown Champaign or on-site.

Calls from Santa 2019 | Thursday, December 12 at 6:00 – 8:00 pm

Phones are ringing, children singing – all is merry and bright! Hang your stockings and register soon ‘cause Santa Claus calls tonight!

Watch your little one’s eyes light up with the magic of the season when they hear that it’s Santa Claus calling just for them! Calls will be made on Thursday, December 12 beginning at 6p. No calls will be made after 8p. Registration forms will be available starting Monday, November 19 at any Champaign Park District facility or online.

Interested in spreading holiday cheer? We are ALWAYS looking for volunteers/actors to help bring a twinkle to kiddos’ eyes for this event! 

Pizza and Pajamas with Santa 2019 | Saturday, December 14 at Noon – 1:30 pm

Douglass Community Center
All Ages – $5

Celebrate the holiday season! Enjoy holiday-themed crafts, music, and a visit from Santa. Guests will enjoy pizza, cookies, and a drink while hanging out with Santa. Don’t forget to dress in your favorite holiday jammies! All participants (children and parents/guardians) must register.

Cultural Arts Events

The Springer Cultural Center often hosts free art exhibits, the Bach’s Lunch Concert Series, and the State Town and Country Amateur Art Show each fall.  Please see the Cultural Arts page for more details.
