The Champaign Park District offers a wide array of special events throughout the year. Events are listed by season under the “Special Events” tab. New events may be added at any time, so be sure you keep an eye on our most recent Program Guide for updates. Douglass Senior Style Show | Sunday, September 24, 2017 at 4:00 pm

All Ages – $5, Tickets required, can be purchased at Douglass Annex or Douglass Community Center.
If you missed last year’s sold-out show, you should plan to attend this year’s Senior Style Show. Come out to see the seniors of Douglass Annex strut their stuff down the runway, a guaranteed good time! This is an event you do not want miss. Please come ‘Dressed to Impress’ to fit this stylish occasion.

Halloween FunFest | Thursday, October 26, 2017 at 5:00 – 8:00 pm

Market Place Mall
Ages 11 & under (must be accompanied by an adult) – FREE!
Now in its 31st year, Champaign and Urbana Park Districts, along with Market Place Mall, invite you and your family to join us for this FREE family event! Dress up in your favorite costume and join us for trick-or-treating, games, and a costume contest. Take a walk through our spook-tacularly (family-friendly) Haunted House (line closes at 7:30pm), and don’t forget to bring a bag to collect all your goodies. Event images will post to our Facebook page for you to download, share, and enjoy!

Calls from Santa | Thursday, December 14, 2017 at 6:00 – 8:00 pm

 Phones are ringing, children singing – all is merry and bright! Hang your stockings and register soon ‘cause Santa Claus calls tonight!

Watch your little one’s eyes light up with the magic of the season when they hear that it’s Santa Claus calling just for them! Calls will be made on Thursday, December 14 beginning at 6p. No calls will be made after 8p.

Holiday Whodunit | Saturday, December 16, 2017 at Noon – 2:00 pm

All Ages, children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult – FREE!
Join us for our newest family tradition at Douglass Park. Use your best CSI skills to solve the crime at the Ugly Sweater Shindig. Enjoy lunch, games, prizes, and more as we sift through clues to find the culprit. If you would like to play a character, please give us a call at 217-398-2573.

Holiday in Whoville | Sunday, December 17, 2017 at 1:00 – 4:00 pm (Doors open at Noon)

Virginia Theatre
All Ages – $3, children under 2 are free
Join us at the Virginia Theatre for a real holiday treat! Watch Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmasfollowed by pictures with Santa, crafts, caroling, and hot chocolate. After the show, enjoy the holiday lights with trolley rides around  Downtown Champaign. Tickets available at the door or online at thevirginia.org

Cultural Arts Events

The Springer Cultural Center often hosts free art exhibits, the Bach’s Lunch Concert Series, and the State Town and Country Amateur Art Show each fall.  Please see the Cultural Arts page for more details.
