Fall Special Events (September – January)

The Champaign Park District offers a wide array of special events throughout the year. Events are listed by season under the “Special Events” tab. New events may be added at any time, so be sure you keep an eye on our most recent Program Guide for updates. Grandparents Day Celebration | Saturday, September 15 @ 11:00 am -1:00 pm

Douglass Branch Library
Celebrate the special people in your life with Champaign Park District and the Douglass Branch Library. Kids can spend the afternoon with Grandma, Grandpa, or another special person while playing bingo and games, and crafting. Snacks will be provided.

Family-Friendly: 4-6p
16+ only: 8-11p
Tickets available on site – $5/Person, $3/person for Family- Friendly rides. Group rates available for groups of 10 or more.
Are you ready for a journey through the dark narrow trails filled with terrors at Kaufman Lake? Join us for our new Kaufman Lake Trail of Terror Hayrack Rides with hair-raising scares for those 16+ from 8-11pm and Family Friendly (no scare) rides from 4-6pm. After the ride, enjoy a bonfire and food from local food trucks.

Douglass Senior Style Show | Sunday, October 21, 2018 at 4:00 pm

All Ages – $5, Tickets required, can be purchased at Douglass Annex or Douglass Community Center.
If you missed last year’s sold-out show, you should plan to attend this year’s Senior Style Show. Come out to see the seniors of Douglass Annex strut their stuff down the runway, a guaranteed good time! This is an event you do not want miss. Please come ‘Dressed to Impress’ to fit this stylish occasion.

Halloween FunFest | Thursday, October 25, 2018 at 5:00 – 8:00 pm

Market Place Mall
Ages 11 & under (must be accompanied by an adult) – FREE!
Now in its 32nd year, Champaign and Urbana Park Districts, along with Market Place Mall, invite you and your family to join us for this FREE family event! Dress up in your favorite costume and join us for trick-or-treating, games, and a costume contest. Take a walk through our spook-tacularly (family-friendly) Haunted House (line closes at 7:30pm), and don’t forget to bring a bag to collect all your goodies. Event images will post to our Facebook page for you to download, share, and enjoy!

Brunch with the Grinch | Saturday, December 1, 2018 at 10:00 – 11:30 am

All Ages, children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult – $6
Gobble up goodies during Brunch with the Grinch! Don’t be a mean one! Join the Champaign Park District for a morning meeting with the ultimate holiday bad guy, The Grinch. We will have brunch, games, crafts, and a visit from the Grinch himself! Participants may bring cameras for personal photos.

Pizza and Pajamas with Santa | Saturday, December 8, 2018 at Noon – 1:30 pm

Douglass Community Center
All Ages – $6

Join us to celebrate the holiday season! Enjoy holiday themed crafts, music, and a visit from Santa. Each guest will get to enjoy pizza, cookie, and a drink while hanging out with Santa. Don’t forget to dress in your favorite holiday jammies! All participants (children and parents/guardians) must register.

Calls from Santa | Thursday, December 13, 2018 at 6:00 – 8:00 pm

Phones are ringing, children singing – all is merry and bright! Hang your stockings and register soon ‘cause Santa Claus calls tonight!

Watch your little one’s eyes light up with the magic of the season when they hear that it’s Santa Claus calling just for them! Calls will be made on Thursday, December 13 beginning at 6p. No calls will be made after 8p.

Holiday in Whoville | Sunday, December 16, 2018 at 1:00 – 5:00 pm (Doors open at Noon)

Virginia Theatre
All Ages – $3, children under 2 are free
Join us at the Virginia Theatre for a real holiday treat! Watch Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas (1966 TV short) with screenings at 1pm, 2pm, 3pm, and 4pm. During the event, we will have pictures with Santa, caroling, hot chocolate, and trolley rides through Downtown Champaign.

Cultural Arts Events
