Champaign Park District offers a wide variety of specialty sports including fencing, disc golf, and more! We also host a variety of camps and clinics throughout the community.

Pickleball

CPD PICKLEBALL OPEN

Ages 18+
Come join the first ever Champaign Park District Pickleball Tournament! Housed in our gymnasium at the Leonhard Recreation Center, each session will comprise of a maximum of 8 teams in a round robin, tournament- style format. Recreation-based, non-sanctioned.

Youth Specialty Sports

YOUTH FENCING

Ages 8-12
En Garde! This special six-week session is for kids looking for something new and exciting to try. Participants will learn through footwork, drills, games, small group instruction, and open fencing with varied youth ages. Fencers should come dressed to work hard in loose clothing (no denim jeans) and tennis shoes. All fencing equipment is provided.

Fee (R/NR): $80/$120*
Additional $10 fee for U.S. Fencing Association Non-Competitive Membership per participant. Register online separately at www.usafencing.org/page/show/698114-individual-memberships

PROJECT ATHLETES

3rd-5th & 6th-8th graders
Project Athletes Speed School offers speed, agility, and conditioning training — a place to belong and a team to be a part of. Join us at the Leonhard Recreation Center as we partner with Project Athletes, a program designed to improve personal athletic ability and personal growth development. This program includes individualized cross-training, a unique accountability program, and an after-school programming option for students in 3rd-5th and 6th-8th grades. Let Project Athletes guide your child on their life journey through positive mentoring.

ORANGE AND BLUE YOUTH GOLF CLINIC

The Champaign Park District and U of I Golf Course have teamed up to provide a Youth Golf Clinic for the community. Experienced and new players welcome! These clinics will focus on developing the proper skills for kids to begin playing the game of golf. The University of Illinois Golf Course is committed to making sure that children have the opportunity to learn, play, and enjoy golf.

En Garde! Looking for a new activity for yourself or your family? Add a new twist to your fall schedule by signing up for a six-week introduction of fencing! Participants will learn through footwork, drills, small group instruction, and open fencing with varied adult ages. Fencers should come dressed to work hard in loose clothing (no denim jeans) and tennis shoes. All fencing equipment is provided.

We will follow all COVID protocols: temperatures taken, short medical status questions, hand washing upon entry, no shared equipment, social distancing, and cloth face covering required at ALL TIMES.

Scholarship Information


Because some residents are unable to participate in recreation programs due to economic hardship, the Champaign Park District offers scholarships to reduce certain fees and charges. Jimmy John’s Youth Scholarship Program applicants are not guaranteed fund availability, program registration or choice of program location. Early applications are given priority. Need is the primary criterion upon which scholarship applicants are considered. Questions: 217-398-2550.

CPD & CUSR Scholarship Forms will be used by any applicant who wants financial help with programs occurring between May 1, 2020 through April 30, 2021.  Page 3 is for each child requesting assistance, so print multiple copies if needed:
