The Champaign Park District maintains ballfields in many area parks. Please visit our Parks page and search the park features for “ballfields” to find a field near you! Note: the Dodds Softball Complex is open for programming or by reservation only – there are no “open play” times at Dodds. For more information about neighborhood ballfields or for Dodds Softball Complex reservations, please call 217-398-2550.

Additional softball leagues, tournaments, and programs may be added at any time. Be sure you check out the current Program Guide to find any programs not listed below.

Learning the Fundamentals

Please see our Baseball page for co-ed programs that teach fundamentals appropriate to both softball and baseball. These programs include, but are not limited to, Iddy Biddy Baseball, Tee Ball, and Little League.

Central IL Diamonds Girl’s Fast Pitch Softball Leagues

Ages 8-16 (as of Dec 31, 2016); girls only

  • Volunteer Coaches Needed.
  • All participants should attend the Skills Assessment on April 15. See
    times below.
  • All participants should be contacted by their coach by April 19. The Champaign Park District and the Central Illinois Diamonds have partnered together to provide an instructional girls fastpitch softball program that is designed to enhance players’ skills while enjoying recreational play. Teams will play home and away games against other teams in the area such as Mahomet, Urbana, and St. Joseph.

Ages 8-10 Semi coach-pitch league (Player pitch odd-numbered innings. Coaches pitch during even innings.)
11” ball; pitching distance 35’

Ages 12 & Under
12” ball; pitching distance 40’

Ages 14 & Under
12” ball pitching distance 40’

Ages 16 & Under
12” ball; pitching distance 40’

Players may “play up” and register for an older league.
Skills Assessment: April 15 at Dexter Field.
10:00a – 10 & Under League
11:30a – 12 & Under League
1:00p – 14 & Under League
2:00p – 16 & Under League
ALL PLAYERS should attend the Skills Assessment. Teams will be reset EACH YEAR. Players not able to attend the Skills Assessment will be randomly placed on a team. In order to balance the talent among the teams equally, it is important for every player to be at the Skills Assessment. In case of inclement weather, call the Cancellation Line at 217-805-4100 or check our website. If cancelled, we will either go indoors at the Leonhard Recreation Center or reschedule for April 22 at Dexter Field.

Games: Game dates and days TBD. Season ends mid to late July. Games are held at Dodds Softball Complex and surrounding areas. Some short travel may be required (i.e. Mahomet, St. Joseph). Practices: Practices begin early April and are held at neighborhood fields including Johnston and Wisegarver.

Fee (R|NR): $80|$120 *Includes a team shirt

Parkland College Fast Pitch Camp

Ages 12-18; girls only
Go Cobras! This marks the tenth year the Champaign Park District and national softball powerhouse Parkland College have partnered together to offer an advanced skills fast-pitch camp; and it has grown better every year! This camp will emphasize pitching, advanced hitting and defense. It also includes a discussion on recruiting. Coach Chuck Clutts has earned multiple CCCI Coach of the Year Awards and coached numerous college All-Americans. Meet and train with current players.

Pre-Registration will be done through Parkland College. See parkland.edu/softball or call Coach Clutts at 217-351-2370 with questions. On-site registration will be accepted. Please arrive 20 minutes early to check in. Make sure to bring necessary equipment: gloves, bats, water bottle, etc. Coaches and parents are welcome to watch. Injury waiver and release required. Make checks payable to “Parkland Softball.”
